Jeremy Staff’s research and teaching interests lie in criminology, life course studies, and social stratification. With support from the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, Dr. Staff has used multiple longitudinal datasets (Monitoring the Future, Add Health, Youth Development Study) to assess how early employment experiences relate to health and well-being, family formation, health-risk behaviors, and achievement during adolescence and the transition to adulthood. With current funding from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, Dr. Staff is examining how school, work, and family transitions are associated with fluctuations in alcohol use and misuse, as well as the long-term consequences of these problem behaviors with respect to midlife socioeconomic attainment, health, and mortality.
