Biography:

Nancy Luke’s research is situated at the intersection of gender relations and health in developing countries. She has examined important health outcomes, including sexual behavior and HIV risk in Kenya, and marital violence, son preference, and child nutrition in India. Dr. Luke is also a survey methodologist interested in collecting retrospective and prospective longitudinal data. For example, she and colleagues designed life history calendars to collect 10-year sexual relationship histories from adolescents in Kenya and 24-hour retrospective time use data from spouses in India. A new project aims to initiate a panel study of newly married couples in India and track parental inputs and child outcomes for first pregnancies and births over 5 years.
